Trad Climbing Basics - What's it all about?

Trad climbing is a form of climbing which relies on leader placed protection. You select pieces as you climb and place them in natural rock features and it's the predominant form of climbing in the UK. It requires greater equipment and rope work knowledge. During this one day taster you will learn the basics of how to remove equipment and follow a leader.

Skills

  • An understanding of the basic equipment you'll need to climb safely.
  • How to tie in correctly with the industry standard knots.
  • What a buddy check is and how to complete them and why they're important.
  • How to lead belay.
  • What leading is and how it works.
  • How to follow a route and remove the gear.
  • What are the environmental factors you'll need to consider when visiting outdoor crags.

Ideal for:

Beginner to Intermediate climbers and boulderers who have been top roped climbing at either an indoor wall or outside.
