Bouldering to Lead Converter - What's it all about?

You've been honing your movement skills for a while now, but you're curious about how you lead climb at a climbing wall. This is the course for you. We'll run you through the extra kit and skills you need to work on over two days so that you have time to learn, practice and perfect. You'll need to learn the absolute basics, like putting a harness on, how to tie in, to belay both toprope and lead, and then move on to how to clip quickdraws and the chains at the top.

Skills

  • An understanding of the basic equipment you'll need to climb safely and the types and advantages of the models available.
  • How to put on tie in correctly with the industry standard knots so you'll pass wall inspections, and common errors in the way you've set up.
  • What a buddy check is and how to complete them and why they're important.
  • How to correctly load a belay plate, it's purpose and how to use it.
  • What "top roping" is and how to do it.
  • What "seconding" is and how to do it.
  • What "leading" is and how to do it.
  • How to safely practice leading independently using "ghost leads" and autobelays.
  • Get preped for your first lead and if you feel ready, have a go.
  • Some basic movement skills to help you transfer your bouldering skills to roped climbing.

Ideal for:

Beginner to Intermediate climbers and boulderers who have never been roped climbing.
